The World Tourism Organization (WTO) defines sustainable tourism as “tourism that takes full account of its current and future economic, social and environmental impacts, addressing the needs of visitors, the industry, the environment, and host communities”.
According to this definition, we can say that we are a sustainable destination, and as such, one of our main goals is to promote environmentally friendly tourism.
Malgrat de Mar is the only Maresme destination with the Biosphere Commitment seal awarded by the Costa del Maresme Tourist Consortium. To achieve this distinction, the actions carried out in the field of energy and biodiversity have been examined, as well as social, economic, and transversal aspects between different areas of the municipality such as culture, the environment, waste management, green spaces, or urbanism.
Apart from the tourist destination, the two tourist offices in the municipality and one of the hotels in the town have also obtained this seal.
This distinction confirms our commitment to a de-seasonalized tourism and our respect of the cultural and natural heritage, and recognizes the efforts made by a destination in its tourism policies, once aligned with the 2030 Agenda and having established a plan of continuous improvement action.
