Malgrat de Mar has always had a market for fresh produce, although at the beginning it took place on the street and did not have a place assigned. Later, the vendors gathered at the space that is still known as Peixateries Velles (Old Fishmongers’). The current building was inaugurated on 1991 and is situated at the heart of the Old Quarter, just beside the Town Hall. It is easily accessible and has parking facilities. At present, it holds nine stalls that offer fish and seafood, fruit and vegetables, pulses and preserves, meat and lunch meat.
The market is a benchmark of quality for local fresh produce and was designed to boost the commercial and urban centre of the town. Its main entry is located on Carrer Bellaire, just after Peixateries Velles. The back entry is located halfway of Camí Nou.
