Giants Procession of St. Roc

FOR MORE DETAILS:

Giants Procession

A giant is a representation of an outstanding character of the town, often a noble or a popular character with traditional clothing. During giants processions, people make them walk and dance. These parades take place mostly in town festivals or special days. In Malgrat de Mar there are two pairs of giants: Eulàlia and Bernat, which represent Bernat Estornell and his wife Eulàlia, the first two to hold the Mayor’s baton in 1336, and Nicolau and Rita, which represent the traditional occupations of our town. Rita represents the agriculture of Malgrat, still of great importance today, and Nicolau represents a miner, a really relevant job in the early 1990s. We also have two smaller giants (gegantons), with a funnier role in parades: Ernest and Pilonet.
